Qualifying

This year there is a new qualifying format. This unique knockout-style one-hour qualifying session will be a will be split into three parts, with multiple drivers on track simultaneously turning as many laps as they want during each part, a change from the single-car, one-lap qualifying system used from 2003-2005.

Knockout qualifying specifics:

  • All 22 cars will turn laps at any time during the first 15 minutes of the session. At the end of the first 15 minutes, the six slowest cars drop out and fill the final six grid places.
  • The 16 remaining cars then will turn laps in the second 15-minute session. At the end of that session, the next group of the six slowest cars drop out and fill 11th through 16th places on the grid.
  • The final 20-minute session will feature a dramatic shootout between the remaining 10 fastest cars to decide pole position and the starting order for the top 10 grid places.

Flashback to 2000

USGP Formula 1 Race Weekend 2000

It was great seeing all of the Formula 1 drivers, crews, and fans converge on the racing capital of the world.

It didn't even take too long to get used to the cars racing around the track in the wrong direction. One thing I enjoyed was walking around the new part of the track and getting the feel of being closer to the cars as they were traversing the turns.

Congratulations to all for a great race.

Well that was not much of report.

Did you know...

This there will be an American in the race. Scott Speed will make his USGP debut driving for Scuderia Toro Rosso. He is the first American to race in F1 since 1993.

Make sure you check out the Formula one website. It is really cool and has lots of great information.
