The Annual Harrell's Go-Cart Invitational |
|
For many years we had an annual family and friends go cart race. Our interest in go carting started with a beat up old red go-cart with no brakes that we had as children. It's been a few years since we've had a race but our memories of them are quite fond. Here is a look back to some of the fun we've had go-carting. |

2001 Harrell's Go-Carting ReportWell, this year saw a change in venue. Instead of driving all the way out to Whiteland Raceway Park, the group went to the new place located inside the Union Station in downtown Indianapolis. Everyone had a wonderful time. After getting their go-carting license, the racing began. As usual, several people were black flagged and given a stop and go penalty. In the end it was the Blackburn's father and son duo that came in first and second. However, even with Logan's racing experience, Alex was able to pull ahead of his father and win by about 6 inches. Evert came in third. |
2000 Harrell's Go-Cart ReportIn the "A" main race, two drivers were red flagged and forced to leave the race. I guess they bumped the other drivers too much or drove on the grass too often. The winner of the "B" main race was a rookie from England. Well, she may have been a rookie at the "Harrell's Race Weekend Bash", but she has definitely been in a go-cart before. There was a great race between the Harrell sisters for the "Back of the Pack" award. Karen won (if coming in last is considered winning). |
1999 Harrell's Go-Cart ReportWell, I missed it. My flight from LA landed real early Friday morning. Naturally I didn't get any sleep on the "red-eye." So, I took a nap while the others were go-carting. One thing: there was only one female racing this year and she was 3 months pregnant (she hadn't gotten around to telling anyone yet). She won the "Back of the Pack" award this year.
The 1998 Harrell's Go-Cart Re-cap This exciting event took place on Friday, May 22, 1998 at Whiteland Raceway Park. Partaking in the fun and excitement were some very brave individuals who ignored the cold, wet, rainy conditions to go speeding around in a go cart. The 18 or 19 participants each raced in three 10-lap heats. Then, one 25-lap championship race. It only took one warm-up lap to realize that this was going to be a wet adventure. After all, being mere inches off the wet concrete in an open-wheeled vehicle in the rain does not lend itself to maintaining dry clothing. After racing around the track in soggy clothing in the wind and rain for a while, the rain actually stopped and the track started drying. By the time we got to the championship races the track was dry, although we were still a bit wet. The "track officials" used the finishing positions and times of the three heats to decided who's in Division B or A.
The winners of Division B. The Winners of Division A Congratulations to all the participants! We look forward to seeing more of you next year! Perhaps, you will take home the winning trophy! |
