17:54:54 Moderator {public msg} hi everyone, tonight we're welcoming
Mira
Furlan who plays Delenn. here's our first question.
17:54:59 Bajele {question presented} Welcome and thank you for
taking the time
to visit with us :) I have heard sound bites of you present album and love
it! Is your first album still available?
17:56:31 mira_furlan {public msg} the first album recorded to quote
Joe was
"1000 years ago in Yugoslavia" is not available in the US
17:56:47 Terina75 {question presented} Where can we find your new
CD?
17:56:58 mira_furlan {public msg} I have it on tape but it was made
in vinyl on
records. You might find it on small stores.
17:57:11 mira_furlan {public msg} as far as finding the new one it
in on infinite
visions and can be ordered
17:57:30 mira_furlan {public msg} it is a very unusual project, a
conceptual
project.
17:57:43 mira_furlan {action} the typist is bad
17:57:55 Moderator {public msg} infinite visions can be reached at
800-755-8735
17:58:05 mira_furlan {public msg} it is set in the space between
reality and
fiction.
17:59:13 mira_furlan {public msg} it is a total experience between
visual and
audio . because it includes a CD-ROM. that gives you glimpses of these
imaginary movies. that
the songs come from.
17:59:32 mira_furlan {public msg} It is called "song from
movies that have never
been made"
18:00:04 mira_furlan {public msg} and the whole idea of the project
of the realm
between the imaginary and the real. between reality and fiction.
18:00:48 mira_furlan {public msg} we are imagining those movies
together with
the soundtracks from those movies. in all kinds of different languages. some of
them real and
some of them imaginary.
18:01:10 mira_furlan {public msg} I would call it a conceptual work
which deals
as much with music as with ideas. ga
18:01:13 Delenn_fan {question presented} Mira, if Joe had given you
carte
blanche to change something about Delenn, what would you have changed?
18:01:43 mira_furlan {public msg} I would have given her eyebrows.
18:01:48 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:01:57 Bruckner {question presented} How did you select the songs
that
you've incorporated in your new CD?
18:03:46 mira_furlan {public msg} I worked with three musicians one
on them
was the main author, Dejan Trickovic. and he is a very talented
musician who also did music for
Gorans production of Antgone, that we did two years ago in Los Angeles.
18:03:59 mira_furlan {public msg} He authored most of the songs, ...
18:05:02 mira_furlan {public msg} #1, 5 and 11 were done by another
musician,
who Koya, and who is the King of Alternative rock and roll in the former
Yugoslavia
18:05:34 mira_furlan {public msg} the has a very very radical band.
18:06:05 mira_furlan {public msg} Now he is working in London with
parts of
his former band.
18:06:26 mira_furlan {public msg} song number 4 is written by a
third musician
18:06:58 mira_furlan {public msg} Its and eclectic combination of
different
musical approaches.
18:07:14 mira_furlan {public msg} which corresponds with ;my very
eclectic taste
in music.
18:07:18 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:07:22 Psilady {question presented} Mira, Do you consider the
States your
home now, or do you think you'll try to go back someday?
18:07:46 mira_furlan {public msg} I could easily say that I consider
the States my
home now.
18:08:30 mira_furlan {public msg} I feel that ii am in a very
special position . not
only me of course but missions of other people. from the former Yugoslavia
who actually feel
abandoned by their home country.
18:08:33 mira_furlan {public msg} and left alone.,
18:09:03 mira_furlan {public msg} so America was my choice. and I
actually like
the idea of being able to choose your home and your country.
18:09:07 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:09:08 Jds532218 {question presented} How much of experiences from
your
homeland entered into your character...particularly those concerning the Earth
or Minbari Civil
Wars?
18:10:02 mira_furlan {public msg} I would say there is a lot of my
experience and
my feelings concerning the war in my former country. that sneaked into how the
character of
Delenn was conceived written and played.
18:10:56 mira_furlan {public msg} Definitely, the feeling of
isolation of that
character, the outsider feeling. the feeling of being between cultures and
worlds that I share.
18:10:58 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:11:07 FranklinMD {question presented} If there were a
"defining moment" or
"defining part" in your career, what would it be?
18:11:49 mira_furlan {public msg} There are definitely moments that
discovered
the whole profession for me.
18:12:36 mira_furlan {public msg} I went to study acting at the
academy for
theatre and film because it was a little experiment for my self. I wanted
to play. I loved the
childhood game aspect of acting.
18:13:27 mira_furlan {public msg} and them when I was at my last
year of
studying I did a play, and it was Whitehead's "alphabeta"
(Greek letters) through acting in that play I discovered what it was all
about.
18:13:36 mira_furlan {public msg} it was much more that a game
18:14:06 mira_furlan {public msg} that it gives you a possibility to
enter your
own soul. to really learn about what's in side and that fascinated me
18:14:16 mira_furlan {public msg} and from that moment on I was
hooked.
18:14:25 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:14:26 Ukjames {question presented} Where do you see your future,
TV,
Movies, or Theatre
18:15:11 mira_furlan {public msg} I would like to see it in feature
films, which I
used to do in my former career (Yugoslavia). I shot around 25 movies
there.
18:15:21 mira_furlan {public msg} and that's what I miss.
18:15:42 mira_furlan {public msg} Will it be possible to achieve
that is this
country? I really really do not know.
18:15:47 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:15:49 Kaz {question presented} Which area of acting do you
prefer? Drama,
comedy ..... and why?
18:16:53 mira_furlan {public msg} Drama , I would say, comes easier
to me.
Kind of comes naturally to me for some reason. and most of the time In my
former life and career I was given dramatic parts.
18:17:49 mira_furlan {public msg} but, I would love to do comedy.
and I think it
would be very healthy for me. Actually the last project that my husband,
Goran, directed in
Yugoslavia was a film comedy called "dear video" and I had fun playing
a role in it.
18:17:57 mira_furlan {public msg} and of course working with him.
18:18:29 mira_furlan {public msg} so maybe we'll repeat it
here. (not that
particular movie, but something else, even better and maybe funnier)
18:18:32 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:18:35 Psilady {question presented} How would you compare working
in the
science fiction genre to others you've worked in? Have you enjoyed it?
18:19:22 mira_furlan {public msg} I enjoyed working in Science
fiction
immensely. I have never experienced that kind of loyalty and commitment
from the fans
18:19:31 mira_furlan {public msg} as in science fiction.
18:19:46 mira_furlan {public msg} I am amazed by the intelligence of
the fans.
18:19:53 mira_furlan {public msg} and their understanding
18:20:00 mira_furlan {public msg} of all the levels ..
18:20:08 mira_furlan {public msg} layers and subtleties.
18:20:15 mira_furlan {public msg} both in writing and in performing
18:21:33 mira_furlan {public msg} other than that, there are
specifics to the
science fiction genre one of them which I always found hard to deal with was
playing to the
imaginary impulses, for example a blue a screen, playing opposite a set that you
have no idea
where or what they are at the time you are doing it.
18:21:54 mira_furlan {public msg} You have to use your
imagination. but then
again I think the imagination comes handy in all the genres.
18:22:03 mira_furlan {public msg} the new aspect for me was makeup.
18:22:33 mira_furlan {public msg} and trying to reach some level of
truth in your
performance through all the glue and rubber.
18:22:44 mira_furlan {public msg} on your face.
18:22:45 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:22:48 Ukjames {question presented} If you had known before the
audition
how much make-up it would entail for the five year period would you still have
taken the job?
18:23:12 mira_furlan {public msg} looking back. at the whole
experience. I
would.
18:23:28 mira_furlan {public msg} but at the time at the time when
we ere
shooting the pilot I had doubts about that
18:23:31 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:23:35 Mutai {question presented} What was your most memorable
moment
while filming B5?
18:24:03 mira_furlan {public msg} when you go through a process of 5
years
your can't, or maybe I not able to, pick one moment.
18:24:57 mira_furlan {public msg} there are so many wonderful
moments. real
deep acting moment with Bruce, with Billy, with Andreas, with peter, with
Wayne Alexander in
comes the inquisitor.
18:25:26 mira_furlan {public msg} there are great moments that Joe
wrote for me.
great big dramatic scenes on the level of any dramatic classical text.
18:25:35 mira_furlan {public msg} and I can only be grateful for
those
experiences.
18:25:38 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:25:42 Bajele {question presented} Did you have much input into
the way
Delenn was presented (clothing, delivery etc..)?
18:26:53 mira_furlan {public msg} I was pretty much left to my own
instincts in
how I portrayed Delenn. and from the first moment. I actually had
that instinctual response to
how the character "breathes" so to say.
18:27:16 mira_furlan {public msg} Ann Bruice did a wonder ful job
with clothes
and my input would have been redundant.
18:27:17 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:27:29 mfarah {question presented} Do you expect to appear as a
guest star in
Crusade?
18:28:02 mira_furlan {public msg} Next
18:28:03 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:28:59 Bajele {question presented} Do you have a favorite part
aside from
Delenn?
18:29:47 mira_furlan {public msg} well my favorite parts are mainly
in the theatre
because there you have the highest quality o f writing.
18:30:24 mira_furlan {public msg} one of my favorite parts,
turgenev's A Monk
in the Country.
18:30:52 mira_furlan {public msg} which was played in the Croatian
National
Theatre just before the War stated and my life flew to pieces.
18:31:32 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:31:35 Talia W {question presented} Which part of Delenn's
personality would
you say is most like your own?
18:32:13 mira_furlan {public msg} why do people always want to
identify actors
with their roles?
18:32:30 mira_furlan {public msg} I don't' think it a good thing to
compare real
people with imaginary characters.
18:32:53 mira_furlan {public msg} It can also become quite dangerous
and quite
disappointing for people who do it.
18:33:12 mira_furlan {public msg} because when they meet the actor
they can
never get what they expected.
18:33:55 mira_furlan {public msg} I met a guy in Australia in a
recent convention.
who told me after meeting me, I'll never go to another convention because you
are so different
from Delenn. and I could only laugh.
18:33:59 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:34:01 Psilady {question presented} Guess you can't yet share any
Crusade
plans; is there anything in the works you are at liberty to share?
18:34:22 Moderator {action} we have about 10 minutes left tonight,
so get your
questions in quickly.
18:35:02 mira_furlan {public msg} I am taking a little break.
I want to see where
my life is. I feel overwhelmed by the amount of lines, words that got
stuck in my head.
18:35:30 mira_furlan {public msg} being on Babylon for 5
words. that I need to
clear, to clean my head and start from a fresh new beginning.
18:35:32 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:36:06 Bajele {question presented} What do you like to do when you
are not
working?
18:36:56 mira_furlan {public msg} I love to hike.
travel. to explore nature. to
play with my cat, Machaca.
18:37:26 mira_furlan {public msg} and I love to read listen to music
and above all
me with my husband, in any capacity, in any way.
18:37:28 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:37:32 Reschell {question presented} Is there one theatrical role
that you would
particularly like to play?
18:38:35 mira_furlan {public msg} My favorite playwright is checkov,
and I
actually realize that have never done a chekov role , professionally. I've
done it at the Academie bout not for "real" so I would love to
do that.
18:38:39 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:38:59 Kaz {question presented} What play would you love to do?
18:39:17 mira_furlan {public msg} we've already discussed that. ga
18:39:33 Jds532218 {question presented} Is Delenn a role model for
women?
18:40:00 mira_furlan {public msg} well, the audience is the only one
to decide
that.
18:40:23 mira_furlan {public msg} She definitely has many quality
that we, mere
humans, can admire.
18:40:24 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:40:33 Dreambird {question presented} Hello Mira, this is more of
a comment
that a question...I have read about your past in Yugoslavia and how you came to
move here...You
are a great inspiration to me...as my family has been through much the
same...How do you deal
with the frustration and such with such serenity?
18:41:32 mira_furlan {public msg} I wish dealt with
frustration with serenity.
18:41:50 mira_furlan {public msg} unfortunately I myself an not so
sure that I do
that successfully/
18:42:24 mira_furlan {public msg} I can be very bitter and
disappointed and
angry. that 's definitely not serenity.
18:42:32 mira_furlan {public msg} but thank you for having that
impression.
18:42:44 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:42:48 Moderator {public msg} we have time for just 2 more
questions.
18:42:51 RangerRob {question presented} Can you tell us anything
about
"Thirdspace"?
18:43:37 mira_furlan {public msg} It's very action oriented TV
movie. I have a
pretty small part in it. but it's full of humor
18:43:49 mira_furlan {public msg} which is unusual for the character
of Delenn
18:44:00 mira_furlan {public msg} and that's why I thing it should
be interesting
18:44:01 mira_furlan {public msg} ga
18:44:04 Larz_2 {question presented} At this point in your career,
what do you
want to be remembered for having done as an actress?
18:45:25 mira_furlan {public msg} I'm not obsesses with the idea of
being
remembered. if people have fun for getting me, I gladly accept it.
If they want to remember
anything I did, I gladly accept as well. I 'm more into here and now
18:45:35 mira_furlan {public msg} that the obsession of posterity
and eternity
18:45:51 mira_furlan {public msg} ga. one more
18:46:01 Moderator {public msg} one more question....
18:46:12 Ellen Naranek {question presented} How did you feel on the
last day of
shooting?
18:47:26 mira_furlan {public msg} Which one? we had so many
ending that
finally didn't prove to be endings that by the time the real ending came
that our contingent of
emotions was spent.
18:47:42 mira_furlan {public msg} and there was not much left.
but still it was
very sad.
18:48:58 mira_furlan {public msg} thank you for being here. As
much s it's the
end of Babylon for us the actors, it's not that way for you the audience.
because you will be able to watch us even though we are not shooting it any
more. So continue watching and check out the CD
18:49:10 Moderator {public msg} thanks for joining us tonight
everyone! and
thanks Mira, for taking time out to talk with us all!
